Election monitors say that over 30 incidents of election related violence have been reported from the three provinces where elections are to be held next month.

Elections are scheduled to be held in the Sabaragamuwa, North Central and Eastern Provinces on September 8th.

Executive Director of People’s Action for Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL) Rohana Hettiarachchi has reported that the latest incident is a shooting recorded from the Embilipitiya area on Tuesday.

He has explained that an armed group had allegedly threatened UNP supporters who were putting up posters in support of their party candidates.

The armed group however had shot into the air and fled the scene.

According to Hettiarachchi, most violations of election laws are related to the misuse of government vehicles.
