The External Affairs Ministry of Sri Lanka has received complaints from over 800 workers employed overseas.
The Ministry has received complaints from 899 migrant workers requesting to be brought back to the country due to harassment from their respective employers.
The Consular Division of the External Affairs Ministry has stated that the largest number of complaints have been received from Saudi Arabia.
Out of the total 899 migrant workers, 473 workers have already been brought back to the country.
According to the Consular Division, the rest of the complaints are still being investigated and a decision is yet to be made on getting them back to the country.
Migrant remittances are a mainstay of the Lankan economy, accounting for about 7% of GDP and 36% of export earnings.
