Pakistan Naval War College Alumni Association launched in Sri Lanka

The Sri Lankan Chapter of Pakistan’s Naval War College Alumni Association (PNWCAA) was launched last week in an impressive ceremony held at Colombo. Secretary Defence Sri Lanka Gotabaya Rajapaksa will be the Chief Patron of the PNWCAA. Pakistan’s visiting Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Mohammad Asif Sandila, NI (M), was the guest of honour at the event, which was also attended by the High Commissioner of Pakistan in Sri Lanka Maj. Gen. Qasim Qureshi. The event was also attended Commander of Sri Lanka Navy Vice Admiral Jayanath Colombage and Chief of Defence Staff Sri Lanka Gen. Jagath Jayasuriya as well as other distinguished guests besides members of the new association. The ceremony commenced with the national Anthems of Sri Lanka and Pakistan, which was followed by welcome address of the Defence Advisor of Pakistan in Sri Lanka Colonel Sheharyar Parvez Butt. While addressing the gathering, Vice Admiral Jayanath Colombage highlighted the closeness between the two countries especially in the field of defence. He said that launching a platform for officers who have undergone training in the Pakistan Naval War College will further strengthen relationship between the two armed forces. Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Mohammad Asif Sandila, NI (M) said that the Pakistan Navy feels privileged to train the bright officers of the Sri Lankan Navy. He expressed the hope that launching of this association will further promote the bonds developed by the officers and their families with Pakistan following their one year stay during the course. The Naval War College is Pakistan Navy’s premier institution providing training to the mid-career officers of Pakistan Navy as well as to a limited number of officers from Pakistan Air Force, Pakistan Army and various allied forces. It is located at the Mall Road Lahore. Presently, the College conducts a 40-week course for officers of the rank of Lieutenant Commanders/Commanders. On successful completion of Staff Course, the participants are awarded ‘psn’ symbol by the College and B.Sc. (Hons) Degree in War Studies by the Bahria University, Islamabad. The college has earned a place of high repute as an institution of knowledge and learning in the Armed Forces of Pakistan and Allied countries. A large number of allied officers from Bangladesh, Bahrain, China, Egypt, Fiji, Ghana, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Kenya, Kuwait, Libya, Malaysia, Nigeria, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Sri Lanka, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Tanzania, Turkey, Uganda and UAE have graduated from the college.
