Pakistan sends relief assistance for landslide victims

The first cargo flight of relief goods from Pakistan for the land slide victims of Haldummula arrived yesterday at Katunayake airport. The relief goods containing generators, shelters, tents, medicines, etc. were handed over by the High Commissioner of Pakistan in Sri Lanka Maj Gen Qasim Qureshi to the Sri Lankan Deputy Chief of Staff Maj. Gen. EMM Ambanpola, USP.

On 31 October 2014, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Muhammad Nawaz Sharif in his condolence message to the Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa, had conveyed that Pakistan is ready to assist Sri Lanka in any way to meet its urgent requirements in relief and rehabilitation efforts. Concurrently, the Chief of Pakistan’s Army Staff Gen Raheel Sharif also had a telephonic conversation with his counterpart Lt. Gen. Daya Ratnayke to express his sympathy and to assess the assistance required by Sri Lanka. While speaking on the occasion, Pakistan’s High Commissioner reiterated Pakistan’s continued commitment to assist Sri Lanka during its relief and rehabilitation efforts. The second special flight carrying relief goods is expected to arrive today.
