Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe said that a proposal to establish parliamentary oversight committees to oversee the ministries has been submitted by the opposition.
Addressing a meeting held in Kandy the Opposition Leader said that the corruption in the ministries can be prevented through this measure and the ministers and the officials are then answerable to the committee. The Opposition Leader pointed out that such a system is implemented in other countries such as the US, UK and India.
He stated that the Chairman of the committee is a MP of the government or the opposition.
He suggested that committees for several ministries including energy, agriculture and education can be appointed.
