People who sit in armchairs cannot topple Governments, UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe charged yesterday, saying that it was only the UNP that was up to the task.

Speaking at an even in Piliyandala yesterday, Wickremesinghe said that battle slogans were all very well, but slogans alone will not scare aware the ruling regime.

“Putting up an act for the media alone will not work, it is necessary to have a well organized grassroots level network in order to bring down the Government,” the UNP Leader said.

Wickremesinghe said that it was the UNP that was up to the task since it was the party that also agitated against and finally won Sri Lanka’s independence from the British.
