Minister Wimal Weerawansa yesterday called for the public to decide on implementing the United States-sponsored UN resolution against the country at the Human Rights Council in Geneva.
Housing Minister and the leader of National Freedom Front Wimal Weerawansa addressing media in said the government cannot face the problem alone and requested the government to obtain a fresh mandate of the people through a referendum or a snap election.
The Minister has vehemently opposed the US-backed resolution, even calling for a boycott of American products and services in the country.
He explained that the foreign powers are attempting to get their objectives fulfilled through the UNHRC and the US and other global super powers brought the resolution to satisfy the pro-LTTE elements.
“Their objective is to defeat the government. Hence the government should work in collaboration with the people,” Weerawansa said.
He pointed out that the government worked with the people to win the war and that link with the public must be continued.
“We must get people involved in this. We must face this together to fight than surrendering. If not they will say that people are not with the government,” the Minister said.
