Pepiliyana issue resolved, suspects freed

The management of the Fashion Bug warehouse in Pepiliyana and the suspects connected over the attack on the premises last week, decided to amicably resolve the issue yesterday.

All 17 suspects including three monks were produced at the Gangodawila Magistrate Court under tight police protection. Both parties eventually came to a settlement and the 17 suspects were then set free.

Three Buddhist monks surrendered to the Mirihana police on Monday over the attack on the Fashion Bug warehouse in Pepiliyana last week.

A monk who was seen on television throwing stones towards a CCTV camera at the store during the mob attack last week, while police officers stood there doing nothing, had also surrendered.

In all, 17 suspects were in custody over the attack and were produced in court. (Colombo Gazette)
