Two Central Committee members of the JVP petitioned the Colombo District Court to restrain the JVP Convention which is scheduled to be held at the Debarawewa playground in Tissamaharama on 1 January, stating that the convention will violate the rights of the petitioners.
The two Central Committee members Ajith Kumara and G. Kularatna filing their petition before the Colombo District Court submitted that they were members of the Central Committee entitled voting at the Convention.
They said the JVP had decided to hold the convention at the Debarawewa playground on 1 January without the participation of the petitioners and contended that if the convention is held it would violate the rights of the petitioners and irreparable damage will be caused to them.
Therefore, they asked to have the JVP Convention restrained by way of an injunction.
Colombo Additional District Judge Mapa Bandara on considering the submission and perusing the petition and the annexed documents ordered JVP Leader Somawansa Amarasinghe to appear before court on 30 December to inquire into the petition.
