PM begins Vietnam tour

01Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe began a four-day official visit to Vietnam to strengthen cooperation in several sectors, including trade and investment, the official Vietnam News Agency reported.

Premier Wickremesinghe, who will be concluding a state visit to Japan from 10-16 April, will pay an official visit to Hanoi from 16-19 April on the invitation of Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

During the visit the Sri Lankan Premier will discuss international and regional issues of mutual concern with his Vietnamese counterpart.

The visit is aimed at enhancing cooperative fields of Sri Lanka’s interest, including trade, investment, telecommunications, fish farming, machinery manufacturing and the production of building materials.

Prime Minister Wickremesinghe and his Vietnamese counterpart held discussions about strengthening bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and Vietnam during the World Economic Summit in Switzerland in January this year.

The Vietnam PM said that they were hoping to sign Memorandums of Understanding during Prime Minister Wickremesinghe’s official visit.

They also had discussions about appointing a high-level joint commission to strengthen relations between the two countries.
