Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has spoken to Justice Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe about the passport of the Chairman of Avant Garde, the security firm that owns a ship containing weapons docked at the Galle Harbour, as the PM has received several questions over the matter.   A statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office on Tuesday said that the Prime Minister had pointed out that people who were keen to establish a new political culture in the country were looking forward to the eradication of corruption and fraud and the punishment of those responsible for such activities, if found guilty. The Prime Minister stressed the need to refrain from making statements which deter investigations into fraud and corruption and the establishment of good governance.   The President and Prime Minister have directed the authorities to conduct investigations into the activities of Avant Garde Maritime Service Ltd. impartially and independently and arrest those found guilty of any misdeed. In a joint venture with state-owned Rakna Arakshaka Lanka Ltd. (RALL), Avant Garde Maritime Services Ltd., a subsidiary of Avant Garde Security Services Ltd., provides infrastructure facilities for international maritime security services. The Colombo Magistrate Court in January issued an order barring the Avant Garde Chairman from foreign travel.
