Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has issued a special message to mark Easter Sunday.
The following is his statement.
Jesus Christ, who transformed death into a supreme sacrifice through his life, is one of the greatest teachers born in this world. He, who committed himself to showing the path of salvation to mankind, was crucified for challenging the religious and political systems that prevailed at that time.
Lent is a season of penance, reflection and fasting which remembers the suffering and death of Jesus Christ and prepares Catholics for Christ’s resurrection on Easter Sunday. They commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ on Good Friday.
We have many examples in the history of the world where truth, justice and fairness have been defeated by evil. Let us be determined to secure humanity without allowing cruelty on our journey towards a righteous and virtuous country.
I fervently wish a happy and peaceful Easter to all Sri Lankan Catholics!
