PM says no confidence motions only after financial fraud inquiries completed

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has said that anyone can table a no confidence motion in Parliament after the present inquiries into financial fraud are completed.

The Prime Minister said that the previous Mahinda Rajapaksa Government had stolen Rs. 1 trillion from the public and now attempts are being made to bring in a no-faith motion against the Finance Minister as they are afraid that the Government would be investigating into as to who were engaged in the colossal fraud.

The Prime Minister made these remarks at a function organised to launch the five-year plan to upgrade the living standards of the hill country plantation community.

UPFA Parliamentarian Bandula Gunawardena has proposed bringing a no-faith motion against the Finance Minister Karunanayake for the tax increases announced by the Government yesterday.

The PM said anyone can table a no-confidence motion against anyone at a suitable time after the completion of the inquiries.

Prime Minister pointing out that not a single government in the past had focused proper attention to the one million or so estate community, who experience various difficulties. Although plans were drawn up to upgrade the lives of this fraternity in 1994, it was not possible to implement it due to the political overturn. (Colombopage)
