PM says people voted for a change in the system and not in individual or party

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said that people had voted at the last Presidential election for a change in the system that existed in the country at the time and not only to change an individual or a party. Addressing a public meeting in Badulla, the Prime Minister called on the public to support efforts to convert the Parliament into one Government without party differences.

Wickremesinghe further noted that people would not forgive anyone who worked to bring back the Rajapaksa regime. According to the Prime Minister, the new Government, with the support of many parties, has reduced the prices of essential goods and increased salaries that were believed to have been unachievable tasks in the past. Wickremesinghe pointed out that the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), under the leadership of Maithripala Sirisena, the United National Party (UNP), under his leadership, and several other parties were involved in running the Government while the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) and the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) were supportive while being in the Opposition.
