Police said the main suspect connected to the attack on the News Editor of the Jaffna-based Uthayan newspaper had been taken into police custody yesterday.
Northern Province Senior DIG Gamini Silva has told the media that a special police team deployed by him from the Jaffna Police arrested the main suspect Monday morning.
The suspect was arrested from the Kalubowila Hospital in Colombo.
The Uthayan News Editor, G. Kuganathan was brutally assaulted by an unidentified group and hospitalised on 29 July.
According to DIG Silva, the suspect was a notorious criminal responsible for several criminal acts in the Jaffna area. He had been admitted to the Jaffna Hospital after sustaining injuries during a clash in the area, but had fled the hospital and got himself admitted to the Kalubowila Hospital in Colombo.
The police are now trying to arrest another person involved in the attack on the Uthayan News Editor.
