Police seek public assistance in finding killers of The Sunday Leader Editor

Sri Lanka Police are seeking public assistance to find the assassins of The Sunday Leader Editor Lasantha Wickrematunge.

The Police have produced facial composites of the two individuals suspected of killing the journalist in 2009 based on the eyewitness accounts at the time of the murder and the Colombo Crimes Division has released the sketches and the details of the two assassins to the media.

Wickrematunge, the Chief Editor of popular English weekly, The Sunday Leader, was assassinated on 8 January 2009 by four assailants who stopped him on his way to his office on the Attidiya-Mt. Lavinia road, in a suburb of the Sri Lankan capital and opened fire at him in broad day light.

According to the Police, one suspect was about 35 years old, 5’8” with wide brown eyes and a stocky build. The second suspect was about 40 years old, 5’10” with a dark complexion.
