The Sri Lanka Police Department has launched a programme to make police stations more people friendly under its campaign to promote a community based police.

The Police Department has commenced the beautification of police stations island-wide as a part of the programme.

Under the programme, several police stations in Colombo have commenced the landscaping of the garden areas within the police premises and have also taken down the boundary walls around the stations.

Police Spokesperson SP Prishantha Jayakody said the Officers In Charge (OICs) of every police station have been informed of the programme.

He has told the media that the OIC had the discretion to decide on whether to bring down the boundary wall at the respective police station or not.

SP Jayakody has added that there was no problem in bringing down the boundary wall at police stations as the country did not face a security threat any more.
