A coalition of trade unions of the Postal Department of Sri Lanka staged a protest yesterday at Maradana demanding the immediate removal of the Post Master General M.K.M. Dissanayake.

Trade union coalition media spokesman Chinthaka Bandara said the Post Master General is accused on 26 counts and that the trade unions would resort to strike action if the voice of the agitation went unheard.

Trade unions of the Postal Department initiated trade union action against the Post Master General last May.

The government appointed a three-member committee to probe the allegations against the Post Master General.

The committee has found the Post Master General guilty of 16 counts against him and partially guilty of five counts.

Trade unions say that the Post Master General can be charged on 16 counts according to the report of the committee.
