Prasad to present credentials to Obama in July

Veteran career diplomat Ambassador Prasad Kariyawasam assumed duties at the Embassy of Sri Lanka to United States at Washington D.C. on 23 June. President Obama is scheduled to receive Ambassador Kariyawasam on 14 July at the Oval Office of the White House at a Ceremony accepting the credentials of the new Sri Lankan envoy. Ambassador Kariyawasam joined the Sri Lanka Foreign Service in 1981 and has held variety of diplomatic assignments including as the High Commissioner for Sri Lanka to India, Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the UN in Geneva and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the UN in New York as well. Prior to joining the Embassy in Washington, Ambassador Kariyawasam served as Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to India while concurrently accredited as the Ambassador to Bhutan and Afghanistan.
