Premier claims foreign forces are behind protests

Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne says that foreign forces are behind some of the protests held in the country.

Jayaratne has said that such foreign forces were behind the protests against the setting up of private universities. Speaking during an event in Gampaha, he has observed that he has received affidavits stating such facts.

According to the Prime Minister, certain foreign elements including the Tamil Diaspora were hopeful of resurrecting the LTTE organisation although it was defeated by the Government.

He has pointed out that two countries had issued stamps of the LTTE as a result of the work of such forces. “These elements want to create unrest in the country,” Jayaratne has claimed.
