President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday said that politicians and Government servants should be dedicated to serving the public. He made this remark at an aid function program held for the 2014 December flood victims in Polonnaruwa yesterday.   “It is the duty of the politicians and the Government servants to help the people in need. We will see to it that this Government fulfills all responsibilities and needs of the public during natural disasters all over the country. As a Government, we will do everything that is in our power to form a background that will eradicate poverty from the society and create a better economy and a good life for our people,” he said.  Speaking further, President Sirisena pointed out that this was a good opportunity to implement a project that would prevent the citizens of Polonnaruwa from becoming victims of floods every year. “Though the need for such a project was recognised earlier, it was never implemented.  So I believe that now is the time to implement this project,” he said.
