President condemns attack in Nice, no Sri Lankans affected

President Maithripala Sirisena immediately condemned the terrorist attack on Thursday in Nice, France, which, according to French authorities killed 84 people and injured 18 more.

In a Twitter message President Sirisena said he is appalled by the “cowardly nature” of the attack in Nice and offered condolences to the French state.

“My condolences are with the grief-stricken French nation,” the President said.

Meanwhile, the Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesperson Mahishini Colonne in a Tweet said so far no reports of Sri Lankans affected by the attack. She said the Sri Lankan Embassy in Paris in is touch with the local authorities.

At least 84 people have died, including children, after a lorry slammed through a crowd marking Bastille Day celebrations in the southern French city of Nice, the BBC reported.

French President Francois Hollande has said the attack was of a “terrorist nature”.
