President directs ban on all varieties of pesticides

President Maithripala Sirisena directed the Registrar of Pesticides and other relevant officials to ban the importation, marketing and using of all varieties of pesticides.

The government, under the directive of the President has implemented large number of programs to make the people in the country a healthy nation by providing them toxin free food.  The government previously took steps to ban Glyphosate which badly affects on the health of the people. But it has been revealed that the pesticide Glufosinate Ammonium has been importing into Sri Lanka and delivering in the country under different brands. Paying attention on this, the President directed to ban the importation of all varieties of pesticides.(President’s Media Division)
