President gears officials to meet flood situation

President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday directed State officials to assess the present disaster caused by heavy rains and winds in the areas and provide urgent relief to the affected people immediately.

The President addressing a discussion held at Temple Trees emphasised on the importance of securing the public from natural disasters.

He directed relevant authorities to deploy trained personnel from the forces to assist to meet any challenge.

 

The need of a proper insurance scheme to compensate the damaged houses was also discussed during the meeting.

The President focused mainly on establishing search and escape units in which introduce by the National Disaster Management Committee, without delay. The President directed the authorities to take urgent to restore the situation in affected areas into normalcy.
