President inaugurates Rs 7.3 b worth road renovation project

President Mahinda Rajapaksa has stated that the government’s aim is to do justice to the people of the hill country by developing their regions, adding that the people have been facing numerous injustices since ancient time.



He observed that the duty and responsibility of the younger generation is to support this endeavour and achieve higher positions after receiving a good education.

The President made this comment on the occasion of commencing widening and carpeting work on the 53 km stretch of road from Nuwara Eliya through Kandahandiya in Hanguranketha on January 07.

The road is to be opened on June 6, 2014. The Chinese Hunan Construction Company is entrusted with construction work of this road with loan facilities from the China Development Bank.

The cost of this project is estimated at Rs 7307 million. The road extending to Nuwara Eliya through Hanguranketha, Rikillagaskada, Walapone and Ragala will be renovated under this project.

President Rajapaksa also worshipped at the Buddha Relics Chamber of the Hanguranketha historical Pothgul Maliga Maha Viharastanaya after calling on Viharadhipathi Ven Ambanvelle Pagnananda Thera.
