President instructs to give priority to practical issues of resettlement process

President Maithripala Sirisena said that solutions to the matters regarding the resettlement in the North and East must be provided while giving priority to practical issues pertaining to the resettlement process.

The President gave these instructions at a special discussion on Northern and Eastern resettlement program held at the Presidential Secretariat yesterday.

President Sirisena also gave instructions to schedule the meeting of Resettlement Committee comprising of Governors of Northern and Eastern provinces, within the next two weeks, to look into matters pertaining to each area and the President further instructed the relevant persons to  not to only based on reports of Divisional Secretaries but to discuss matters relating to divisional levels and  suggest proposals at the National Committee headed by the Resettlement Minister and to submit a proposal for solutions to him.

The Government has given priority to the resettlement process for the displaced persons in the North and the East and the objective of this discussion is to discover practical matters relating to the resettlement process and to provide solutions to these matters.

Ministers D. M. Swaminathan, Lakshman Kiriella, Rishad Bathiudeen, Mahinda Amaraweera, Sajith Premadasa, Rauff Hakeem, Rajitha Senaratne, Patali Champika Ranawaka, Mr. H.M.G.S. Palihakkara- Governor of Northern Province, Mr. Austin Fernando- Governor of Eastern Province, State Minister- Ruwan Wijewardene, Deputy Minister- Dunesh Gankanda, Mr. Nazeer Ahmed- Chief Minister of the Eastern Province, Dr. P. Sathyalingam – Northern Province Minister and other official participated at the discussion.
