President launches program to raise awareness of SLFP activities

President and leader of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) Maithripala Sirisena yesterday launched a program to raise awareness of the party’s activities.

The President inaugurated the island-wide program themed ‘Let’s Get United, Win and Work’, with the first meeting held in Dambadeniya.



The series of meetings under the program are aimed at enlightening party activists on the SLFP’s plans to unite the party at the upcoming elections as the party is heading towards a split with some SLFP members supporting former president Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Minister S.B. Nawinna, Chief Minister of the North Western Province Dayasiri Jayasekara and Deputy Minister Shantha Bandara also spoke at the event. Deputy Minister Eric Weerawardena, Member of Parliament Jayaratne Herath and local government officials representing the SLFP in the Dambadeniya electorate also participated in the event.

No personnel agreement with the UNP : President

President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday claimed that he has not signed any personnel agreement with the UNP. 

President made this comment addressing a group of SLFP members in Kurunagala – Dabadeniya area.
