President makes appointments to Public Service Commission

President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday appointed nine members to the Public Service Commission (PSC) at a function held at the Temple Trees. The Commission, appointed for a three-year term will be chaired by retired Supreme Court Judge Sathya Hettige. The other members of the Commission include S.C. Mannapperuma, Ananda Seneviratne, N. H. Pathirana, S.Thillanadarajah, A Mohamed Nahiya, Kanthi Wijetunga, Sunil S. Sirisena and Specialist Doctor I. N. Soysa. In terms of the Chapter IX, Clause 55 of the Constitution of Sri Lanka, the Public Service Commission is vested with the power of appointment, promotion, transfer, disciplinary control and dismissal of public officers, subject to the provisions of the Constitution. The PSC also has power to formulate rules, regulations and procedures relating to the Public Service. Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga, Secretary to the Cabinet Sumith Abeysinghe and President’s Chief of Staff Gamini Senarath were also present at the occasion.
