President opens Ave Maria currency exhibition

President Mahinda Rajapaksa opened on Tuesday 16 July the first ever school exhibition in Sri Lanka on the evolution of currency organised by the A-level (Commerce) students of Ave Maria Branch School, Negombo. Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa also participated in the opening of this three-day educational exhibition during which oratory contests, exhibition stalls and conferences will be held. There will also be lectures on financial issues. The Central Bank’s Currency Museum, commercial banks and the E-Soft Institute have assisted in organising the exhibition. The Ave Maria Branch School which began in 1998 with 108 students today has about 1400 students and a tutorial staff of 85. Classes are conducted in both Sinhala and English medium from Grade six onwards and A-level students are taught art, commerce, science and mathematics. Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa, Social Services Minister Felix Perera. Deputy Fisheries Minister Sarath Kumara Gunaratne, Parliamentarian Dr. Sudarshini Fernandopulle and Western Province Minister Nimal Lansa were among the large crowd which attended the ceremony. They included students, teachers and parents.
