President requests trade union leaders to consider the country first

President Mahinda Rajapaksa during a discussion with the trade union leaders affiliated to the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) at Temple Trees yesterday asked the trade union leaders to change their attitudes and thoughts timely for the best interests of the country.

The President has pointed out that the public sector employees should consider their responsibilities to the country while enjoying their rights.

General Secretary of SLFP Maithripala Sirisena has said that the discussion was aimed to obtain views and suggestions of trade union members to further strengthen the trade unions affiliated to the SLFP, the major constituent party of the ruling alliance.

A working committee comprising ministers, deputy ministers  and parliamentarians has been appointed during the discussion to strengthen the SLFP Trade Union Organization.

The trade union leaders have pointed out the need to act collectively to face adverse elements which try to disrupt government activities.

Ministers Dilan Perera, Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, Susil Premajayantha, Keheliya Rambukwella and Gamini Lokuge, Treasury Secretary Dr. P.B. Jayasundara, Chairmen of corporations, trade union leaders and representatives participated in the discussion.
