President says country will be developed evenly

President Maithripala Sirisena says his government’s policy is to develop the whole country evenly with equal distribution of funds.

He said his government does not have an un-balanced development policy where only one area is developed spending a huge amount of money and the government hopes to develop the country by equal distribution of funds to every district.

Addressing an event held to open a new two-storied building complex at the Polonnaruwa education zone Sunday, the President said some schools in the country do not even have basic sanitary facilities or drinking water for the students.

The President also symbolically awarded scholarships to students who are recipients of the “Lak Daru Diriya” scholarship program.

The” Lak Daru Diriya” scholarship program was initiated by the President Sirisena in 2000 with his first salary as a minister for the benefit of the students in Polonnaruwa district.

The President also attended a ceremony held to unveil the newly built 18 cubits high Buddha Statue at Sri Priyadarshanarama Temple in Pulastigama, Polonnaruwa.

Addressing the occasion, the President said the Pirivena education in this country should be enhanced to build a disciplined Bhikku generation with knowledge of Dhamma.

He said the priority will be given to boost Pirivena education among the actions to be taken to strengthen the religious activities with the new government to be elected from forthcoming General Election.

The Maha Sangha including Venerable Dambara Amila Thera and North Central Province Chief Minister Peshala Jayaratne were present on the occasion.

President Sirisena also attended and obtained blessings at a special prayer blessing ceremony held at the Polonnaruwa Lankapura Thambala Jumma Mosque.
