President seeks assistance from religious leaders in reconciliation

President Maithripala Sirisena emphasising that there must not be any room for war again in the island, which suffered from a protracting war for three decades, sought the assistance of religious leaders to make Sri Lanka’s the reconciliation process a success.

Meeting with a group of representatives of the World Alliance of Religions Peace Summit Wednesday at his official residence, the President said the assistance of religious leaders is essential.

“Assistance from all religious leaders is essential to accomplish the program carried out by the government to build peace and reconciliation among different communities in Sri Lanka,” he said. He also pointed out the intervention of religious leaders on behalf of Sri Lanka at international level is necessary. The representatives commended the program carried out by the new government to build peace and reconciliation in Sri Lanka and extended their best wishes for the success of the program. Ven. Dr Bellanwila Vimalarathana Thero, Ven. Brahmanawaththe Seewali Thero and other religious leaders participated at the occasion.
