President Maithripala Sirisena made a sudden visit to Weli-Oya on Tuesday without any invitation or request to find out the problems faced by farmers there.

The President spoke to them about the issues they faced and found that the drinking water problem was their main worry. The President assured the farmers that he would attend to this issue at the earliest possible moment and that officers would be appointed to look into their woes more effectively and efficiently.

He also made them aware of the Government’s program to tackle the kidney disease in the Rajarata area.

Officials, including the Secretary to the Ministry of the Mahaweli Development, were present at the occasion.
