President’s attention on establishing compost centres island-wide

A discussion on the progress of the program implemented by the Central Environmental Authority to provide solutions to the garbage problem affecting most areas in the country was held under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena last week at Mahaweli Centre.

Attention was paid on maintaining the compost centres with high quality standards established in the areas of provincial administration institutes under the financial assistance of Pilisaru Project.

The projects of compost centres are being implemented in Matara, Lankapura, Mahaoya, Hambantota and Lunugamvehera areas and the present situation of the project as well as the problems faced by them when implementing the project were discussed in detail.

Here, the President emphasised the importance of conducting these compost units more efficiently and productively.

Secretary of the Ministry of Mahaweli Development and Environment Nimal Rupasinghe, Chairman of Central Environment Authority Prof. Lal Mervin Dharmasiri, Director General K.H. Muthukuda Arachchi and the Director of the Pilisaru Project R. Walpola were among those who participated in this discussion.
