Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe celebrates 67th birthday

Prime Minister and the leader of the ruling United National Party Ranil Wickremesinghe celebrated his 67th birthday yesterday.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi extending greetings to his Sri Lankan counterpart wished him a healthy and long life.

“Wishing my friend, a leader with great knowledge & wisdom, SL PM @RW_UNP on his birthday. May he be blessed with a long & healthy life,’ PM Modi said in a tweet.

President Maithripala Sirisena, joined Deputy Leader of UNP Sajith Premadasa and several other ministers and parliamentarians at a simple celebration held at the Temple Trees yesterday to extend birthday wishes to the Prime Minister.

Wickremesinghe was born on 24 March 1949. He studied at Royal College, Colombo and entered the Faculty of Law at the University of Ceylon, Colombo campus. After graduation, he completed law exams at the Sri Lanka Law College and took oaths as an advocate in 1972. He was elected to the Parliament first time in 1977and is one of the few to remain a member of parliament till to date. He became the Prime Minister in 1993, 2001, and twice in 2015.
