The Private Medical College Parents’ Society Ltd. in a statement said it vehemently condemns the statement made by Prof. Carlo Fonseka, the President of the Sri Lanka Medical Council, immediately after the hearing of the pending Court case on 5 June in front of the Supreme Court complex, Colombo.

Prof. Fonseka stated: “I will not allow the registration of SAITM graduates as medical interns even in the case of the Court of Appeal upholding the appeal made to the Court of Appeal by one of the SAITM graduates.” This statement was made to the media by the said Prof. Fonseka.

The Private Medical College Parents’ Society is also of the view that the statement of Prof. Fonseka is both highhanded and an insult to the Court of Appeal of Sri Lanka. It should also be noted that Prof. Fonseka had also threatened to tender his resignation from the SLMC if the SAITM graduates were allowed to register as medical interns.

The Private Medical College Parents’ Society notes with regret this attitude of the Head of the SLMC which is both malicious and driven by personal agendas rather than a national cause, the statement added.
