Land and Land Development Deputy Minister Siripala Gamlath told Parliament on Thursday (19 June) that the program of providing plots of lands to public and corporate sector employees to build houses as envisaged in the ‘Mahinda Chintana’ would further continue. The Deputy Minister said so in response to a question raised by UNP Hambantota District MP Sajith Premadasa. Deputy Minister Gamlath said that plots of lands have so far been distributed among 8771 recipients. Under this program, plots of lands would be selected from places suitable to build houses and would be distributed among public sector employees. Each recipient would get a plot of land not less than ten perches in extent. The Minister pointed out that not all the public servants would request for lands and only those who had no lands would be selected to be benefited under this program.
