Minister Rajitha Senaratne yesterday said that the Government was planning to hold all provincial council elections next year on the same day.
“We have to wait till the terms of all provincial councils have lapsed before we hold elections. This will be sometime in January next year. We can hold the election then. We are not willing to hold elections individually as this exerts undue influence on the results of other provincial council elections,” the Cabinet Co-spokesperson told journalists at a media briefing.
Further, he said that the decision was taken to reduce costs and minimise disruption to ongoing development work. (CD)
