Public invited to visit expressway

The Colombo-Katunayake Expressway, which is scheduled to be officially opened on 27 October, will be opened to the public for three days (from 22-24 October), during which arrangements have been made to hold cultural, sports and other events with people’s participation. The events are being organised by the local government bodies in the area through which the Highways, Ports and Shipping Ministry’s Road Development Authority has constructed this expressway under the direction of Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa on the advice of the President. During the three days of festivities no vehicles will be allowed to enter the expressway but people – both young and old – including school children are invited to walk on the road after entering from the main entrances at Peliyagoda and Katunayake and participate in the festivities The Colombo-Katunayake Expressway is Sri Lanka’s second E Class highway. The 25.8 kilometre-long highway links the capital Colombo with Bandaranaike International Airport, Katunayake. The expressway has 42 bridges and 88 culverts including a 480 metre-long viaduct at Hunupitiya and an 800 metre viaduct at Katunayake.
