Public urged to use electricity sparingly

The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) is requesting the public to switch off non-essential electrical equipment between 6.30 pm and 10.30 pm until the Norochcholai power plant is fully operational again.

A sudden island-wide power outage on Thursday caused a breakdown at the coal power plant in Norochcholai. The CEB had said that a possible lightning strike on a transmission line is believed to have caused the power cut.
