Ranil in talks with BJP

Opposition UNP leader Ranil Wickremasinghe has briefed the Indian opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on the political developments in Sri Lanka, the UNP media unit said yesterday. Wickremsinghe, who is in India on an official visit, met Rajnath Singh, the National President of the BJP and discussed several issues, including the rift between Indian and Sri Lankan fishermen. The UNP leader had said that when he was Prime Minister at the time the BJP was in power in India, he made attempts to resolve the fishermen issues through bilateral talks. Wickremasinghe and Rajnath Singh had also discussed about the upcoming elections in Sri Lanka as well as elections in India.They had also discussed the issues which had arisen as a result of moves to repeal the 13th Amendment to the constitution, the UNP media unit said. Both sides agreed to look at the possibility of building party-to-party ties between the UNP and BJP. (Colombo Gazette)
