Ranil tells US party will support Govt. to implement LLRC recommendations

United National Party (UNP) has said the party will support the Government to implement the recommendations of the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC). Opposition and UNP Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe has made this observation to US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs, Nisha Desai Biswal when he met the US official at his residence on Friday. Wickremasinghe has said the UNP is ready to support if the governing party takes any positive steps in the matter within the next two weeks and the party would support the enactment of legislation required to implement the LLRC recommendations. According to the Opposition and UNP Leader, the LLRC recommendations should be implemented to ensure democracy and preservation of human rights in the country. The Assistant Secretary was accompanied by the US ambassador to Sri Lanka Michel J. Sison at the meeting with the Opposition Leader.
