The identity of a suspect who shot dead Rathgama Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Manoj Mendis has been disclosed by an injured person currently undergoing treatment.
The shooting took place at a tourist hotel in Wewala in Hikkaduwa at around 11.45 p.m. on Monday.
Two friends of the deceased who suffered critical injuries were rushed to the Karapitiya Teaching hospital.
Police Media Spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekera said that one of the injured persons had disclosed the name of one of the suspects, and police had initiated investigations.
A senior police officer in charge of the Galle region stated that several cases, including a murder, are being heard against the deceased PS Chairman at the Galle and Balapitiya courts.
Several foreign tourists were also present at the hotel when the shooting took place.
However, ASP Ruwan Gunasekera said that the motive of the shooting was not confirmed yet.
