Reconstruction of Sri Lanka’s Northern Railway Line from Omanthai to Jaffna may be delayed due to de-mining issues, an Indian envoy has said.
Deputy Indian High Commissioner in Sri Lanka Vikram Misri has said the reconstruction work of the railway line undertaken by the Indian government could get delayed due to the de-mining programme.
However, the Deputy High Commissioner has said the Indian government would accelerate the construction work of the Medawachchiya-Talaimannar railway line.
Misri has made this statement during a meeting at the Vavuniya District Secretariat.
He has also said the Indian government has provided roofing sheets to 8,985 resettled families to build their houses, agricultural tools to 10,327 families and cement and other building material to 800 families under the on-going aid scheme.
The Deputy High Commissioner has praised the government for taking steps to resettle about 300,000 displaced persons who were living in the refugee camps. (www.colombopage.com)
