Remanded for possessing four counterfeit Rs. 1,000 notes

A man, who was arrested on charges of having possessed four counterfeit currency notes of Rs. 1,000 in his possession, was ordered to be remanded till 7 June by a Colombo Court yesterday.

  The suspect, Sifan Mohammed of Dehiwala was arrested by the Fort Police at the Galle Face Green, on the information received, that he was trying to make a business transaction using counterfeit currency notes. The Police recovered four counterfeit currency notes of Rs. 1,000 from the possession of the suspect, and are currently probing how these counterfeit notes received to the suspect.

Meanwhile, producing the suspect before Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage, the Fort Police informed the Court that further investigations into the incident would be carried out, by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID). Taking into consideration the seriousness of the offence, the Magistrate ordered that the suspect be remanded till 7 June.
