Rishad calls on Malaysian Govt to punish wrongdoers in Ansar attack

Minister of Industry and Commerce Rishad Bathiudeen has called on the Malaysian Government to take speedy action on the attack on Sri Lankan envoy in Malaysia Ibrahim Ansar at the Kuala Lumpur Airport on 4 September.

In his meeting with Malaysian Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department MP, Abdul Rahman Dahlan on 6 September, Minister Bathiudeen stressed of the long standing friendly relations between Malaysia and Sri Lanka in multiple spheres.

Minister Bathiudeen was meeting M.P. Rahman Dahlan on the side-lines of his visit to the three-day Pangkor International Development Dialogue (PIDD) in Malaysia.

“I express my displeasure on the attack on Sri Lankan envoy in Malaysia Ibrahim Ansarat by unknown persons. I urge the Government of Malaysia to move speedily and punish the wrongdoers and I am confident of speedy action,” said Minister Bathiudeen addressing M.P. Rahman Dahlan on 6 September.

During the meeting, both Bathiudeen and Dahlan also discussed of cooperation on trade and development between both countries.


 

Two men charged with assault of Sri Lankan envoy in Malaysia

 Sepang: The Malaysian police today produced two men in the magistrate’s court over their alleged involvement in the assault of the Sri Lankan High Commissioner to Malaysia, Ibrahim Sahib Ansar, at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) last Sunday.

Self-employed A. Kalaimughilan, 25 and taxi driver V. Balamurugan, 34, pleaded not guilty to the offence before magistrate Muhamad Faizal Ismail at 10.40 a.m. today, the New Strait Times reported.

The two men were accused of assaulting the High Commissioner and rioting with four others, who are yet to be arrested, at the KLIA on 4 September.

The High Commissioner was at the airport to send off the Sri Lankan Minister Daya Gamage and Deputy Minister Anoma Gamage. The incident was captured on the airport’s CCTV system.

The suspects’ charge under Section 147 of the Malaysian Penal Code carries a maximum jail sentence of two years or a fine, or both, upon conviction.

The court allowed RM7,000 bail with one surety for the accused and fixed the trial for October 7. Deputy public prosecutor Fariza Hamzah prosecuted while Counsel M. Manoharan represented Kalaimughilan and Balamurugan.
