Rishad claims bribery allegations politically motivated

Minister of Industry and Commerce Rishad Bathiudeen yesterday said that the allegations made against him at the Bribery Commission were “politically motivated”. He sent a communiqué to the commission yesterday requesting the commission to inquire into the allegations made against him and to reveal the outcome to the public while stating that he will extend his complete corporation for the investigation. “Through the media, I have learnt of a complaint against me lodged at the Commission against Bribery and Corruption. These allegations are clearly politically motivated and are made by a former candidate who contested the 2013 Northern PC elections under Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) and lost. I request the Bribery and Corruption Commission to expeditiously inquire in to whatever the allegations are and to reveal the outcome to the general public of Sri Lanka. I also wish to assure and commit my fullest cooperation to the Commission in this regard,” Bathiudeen’s statement said. According to reports, a complaint was logged at the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption against Bathiudeen with regard to acquiring money in an illegal manner by a resident of Mannar.

Bribery probes corruption charges against Johnston

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption yesterday recorded a statement fromUnited People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) MP Johnston Fernando who was the former Internal Trade and Co-Operatives Minister. According to reports,Fernando has submitted his assets declaration to the Bribery Commission yesterday in connection with a complaint lodged against him.
