The case filed by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption against Kalutara District MP Rohitha Abeygunawardena for unlawful acquisition of assets worth Rs. 41.1 million was yesterday fixed for trial on 2 and 3 August by the Colombo High Court.DFT-2-5

However, the court will call the case on 19 July.

The Director General of the commission indicted Abeygunawardena before the High Court on two counts for the unlawful acquisition of assets estimated at Rs. 41 million.

The commission complained that the accused had committed this offence by way of undeclared assets between 2004 and 2006.

The High Court earlier overruled preliminary objections raised by Counsel Kalinga lndatissa PC against the commission’s decision to amend the charges.

The commission asserted that the accused had made 66 illegal monetary transactions by constructing a house and purchasing a jeep by breaching Section 23 (a) of the Bribery Act.

President Counsel Kalinga lndatissa with Niroshan Siriwardena appeared for the accused.
