Rotary International President-Elect K.R. Ravindran recently met Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbot in Canberra to present Rotary’s coveted Polio Eradication Champion Award to Abbot, for his strong support to the Rotary polio eradication program. Abbot, a huge advocate for Rotary and its worldwide polio eradication program, had announced a grant of A$ 100 million towards the program at the Rotary convention in Sydney earlier this year. Ravindran headed the polio eradication program in Sri Lanka, now declared a polio-free country. He will assume duties as President of Rotary International at the Sao Paulo convention in June 2015.
