Rs. 10 b to develop schools under Provincial Councils

The Ministry of Provincial Councils and Local Government has allocated Rs.10 billion for the year of 2016 to develop schools under the Provincial Councils. 

These schools are planned to be developed under the Educational Sector Development Program carried out by the Ministry. The allocated money has been received as a grant from the World Bank and it will be distributed equally among the nine Provincial Councils.

Ministry said this development programs will mainly focus on improving the attendance of students, the quality of education and the administrative structure of education.

Provincial Councils and Local Government Minister Faiszer  Musthapha has visited some of the schools in central Colombo to find out issues of those schools and he promised to develop them under this development program.

“I believe the only tool to change society is education. Children in rural areas use education as the best tool to become  socially mobile and make social and economic changes. Schools under provincial councils will receive the full assistance of the Ministry for the development of education,” he said.
